- I think when you have an LGBTIQ support worker, it can get rid of those worries about your own gender identity, about your sexuality, the worries about disclosing those to others. There's just that automatic understanding that the person there with you just gets it. The benefits of being a support worker are having pride within my work, having pride within my workplace. I can do really simple things whilst connecting with people and talking and making changes. Seeing people become the person that they want to be is nothing but wonderful. - It's pretty much a culmination of everything in my life coming together. Having worked in the NDIS myself, I've felt the need and seen the gaps that have existed. In my time, I've got to see people grow and change as they have felt validated and had their identity honored, and that's allowed them to step forward and really assert what it is that they need.
